<p><strong>The Moorish Kingdom of Granada</strong> was established in the thirteenth century encompassing the provinces of Granada, Málaga, and Almería. For 250 years the region had a thriving Islamic culture evidenced today by the architectural legacies found throughout the area. <strong>The Alhambra</strong>, a Moorish citadel and palace, is representative of the Muslim, Jewish and Christian influences which affected the Kingdom of Granada throughout the centuries. During this week long walking tour there will be ample time to contemplate the rich history with a series of walks to visit centuries old Moorish towns and villages in the high valleys of the Alpujarras and the Tahá de Pitres with their crumbling fortresses and castles and the troglodyte quarter of Guadix. Set at the foot of the snow capped Sierra Nevada mountain range, Granada is a natural base to amble the impressive trails before spending time in the cities Albayzin quarter and the Alhambra Palace.</p>

<p>DAY 1 Arrive Málaga, transfer to Pampaneira</p>
<p>DAY 2 Day walk to view Moorish villages via a series of &#8216;empedrado&#8217; footpaths (4.5-5hrs)</p>
<p>DAY 3 From Trevélez to Juviles, transfer to La Calahorra via the ruins of the Alcazaba de Aldeire fortress (5hrs)</p>
<p>DAY 4 Visit castle then walk in the Sierra de Baza Natural Park (4.5hrs)</p>
<p>DAY 5 Walk (depending on season) either to the Vereda de la Estrella (6hrs) or the wooded Sierra de Huétor (3.5hrs) to view the Sierra Nevada, then on to Granada</p>
<p>DAY 6 A day to explore Granada including the Albayzín quarter and the Alhambra palace</p>
<p>DAY 7 Morning walk through the Arenales del Trevenque with its fascinating alpine flora, afternoon free in Granada</p>

<p>The city of Granada is well connected by road: approximately two hour´s drive form Sevilla and one hour form Malaga. The province is linked with eastern Spain and the west of Andalusia via the A-92 while the A-44 connects with Madrid an the southern half of the Peninsula.</p>

<p>Granada&#8217;s climate is continental Mediterranean with a cold winter and a hot summer with maximum temperatures around 35 º C. Sierra Nevada have the most southerly ski resort in the south of Europe.</p>
<p>In Sierra Nevada you will wind the highest peak on the <a title="Iberian Peninsula" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iberian_Peninsula">Iberian Peninsula</a>. The ski resort  is located in the Monachil, about 32 km from Granada about 45 minutes by car. Within Sierra Nevada you find the  peak of Mulhacén Peak, the highest peak in the Iberian Peninsula with 3480 meters of altitude, and the Pico del Veleta, the third highest peak with  a hight of  3392 meters height, after the Aneto in the Pyrenees.</p>
<p><strong>Things to see in Granada:</strong></p>
<p>1) Alhambra</p>
<p>Robust wall of brick and plaster endose the monumental complex which houses splendid &#8220;Arab palaces such as that of <em>Comares</em>, inside which are the <em>Courtyard of Los Arrayanes</em> and the <em>Salón de los Embajadores</em> (the Hall of Ambassadors)- which is covered by a magnificent wooden doma- the <em>Courtyard of Los Leones</em>, featured as the picture below- or splended rooms such as the <em>Sala de los Abencerraje</em>s, <em>Las Dos Hermanas</em> and <em>Los Reyes.</em></p>
